Eō e Liliʻu Children’s Song Contest 2017
The Annual Hoʻokūkū Mele ʻo Eō e Liliʻu, organized by the Kauaʻi Mokihana Festivals and Mālie Foundation, was held on Tuesday, September 20th, 2017 at the Kauaʻi War Memorial Convention Hall in Līhuʻe.
The event started at 9am and lasted approximately 2 hours. This is an annual opportunity to participate in an ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi venue with other Hawaiian Language and Hawaiian Culture Focused Charter Schools on Kauaʻi. As a special guest, St Catherines School of Kapa`a shared in the ho`ike.
This year’s event once again encouraged schools to haku mele, compose music and lyrics. Kawaikini’s Kula Haʻahaʻa sang beautifully their songs to honor Queen Liliʻuokalani (to be updated shortly). Kula Waena and Kula Kiʻekiʻe of Kawaikini sang Eo e Lili`u i Ko Inoa and Pa Mai Konane a Ka Mahina, composed for Queen Liliʻuokalani. Our haumana sang their hearts out!!!
