Ke Ala Hulili is a program of Kawaikini Public Charter School, designed to increase the amount of fluent speakers of ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language) by creating a sustainable program for students to enter into Kawaikini in grades 7 – 8 with little or no previous education in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. Ke Ala Hulili program includes mandatory participation in a four (4) week summer course that includes intensive Hawaiian language instruction and practice of school ‘oli (chants), routines, and expectations.
STUDENTS ARE IMMERSED IN THE LANGUAGE, VALUES AND TRADITIONS OF THE HAWAIIAN CULTURE AS THEY PREPARE FOR THEIR FUTURE IN COLLEGE AND BEYOND. KAWAIKINI’S INNOVATIVE APPROACH IS HIGHLY EFFECTIVE FOR KAUA’I STUDENTS.
